ABOUT THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT HONOR ROLL
Local government touches the
lives of every American every day.
The water we drink, the sidewalk we walk on, the street we drive on, the garbage
that gets picked up weekly, the parks that we enjoy, the fire truck and ambulance
that arrive in an emergency, the police we turn to for safety and protection,
the library we visit to borrow books or other media…the list goes on
and on and on.
Every year thousands of women and men provide a wide variety of public services
that we all use every day. Truly, we could not do without these many public
services and the people who provide them.
Some who provide these public services are elected
officials.
Some are career professionals
who are paid to provide those services.
Many serve as volunteers on
a wide variety of local government boards and commissions.
The Local Government Honor Roll is an opportunity to remember and honor many
of the people who have contributed to local government public service. You
can participate in the Local Government Honor Roll in two ways. We invite
you to:
• Nominate a public servant to be included on the “Local Government
Honor Roll.”
• Add your comments and thoughts in support of someone who has already
been accepted on to the "Local Government Honor Roll."
To qualify, the person you nominate needs to meet only two criteria:
1. The person has honorably served in local government (local government means
city, village, town, county, or special district such as a Park District,
Sanitary District, Library Board, etc.).
2. The person no longer actively serves in local government because they have
retired, are pursuing other career and/or volunteer paths, or are deceased.
There are two ways to submit nominations for the Local Government Honor Roll:
• Fill out and submit a Nomination Form online.
• Download a printable PDF version of the Nomination Form and submit
it by fax (847-234-8309), or by mail (PAR Public Service Foundation, 100 N.
